And I say this as someone who heavily disliked Amber in the past. Now they’ve greatly improved her and I actually like her now.

The season 1 portrayal was drawing more from the comics than this. Amber in the comics is kind of a terrible person.
They fixed 95% of her personality from the comic, but left the Big Plot Moment with her from the comic, presumably because they’re setting up… the eventual endgame ship from the comic. People got pissy, so they’re going back to the early S1 changed characterization for S2, and it’s a good call.
