Okay, so in the last season after Bojack’s show wraps up, the character of Sassy becomes really famous and she gets many offers. But I often think about this one scene where she refuses to do an action scene due to Bojack almost strangling her to death.Later the producer advises another to not choose her as the lead indicating she is a ‘diva’ . The show was very subtle with her character arc, and you know somewhere Bojack had fucked up her emotionally and professionally. Her trauma was huge and the way they showed it’s impact was quite impressive.

I like to think that sometime in the far off future, when she’s ready, she tells the truth about Bojack, gets heralded in a bunch of articles, and writes a bestselling memoir ala Jennette McCurdy/Britney Spears.

And then thousands of online trolls accuse her of lying just for money and fame, and say that if it was true she would have spoken up when it happened. 🙄

I really appreciate that the show’s creators showed the aftermath of her relationship with Bojack. It would have been so easy for them to leave her never to be heard from again after season 5, ending her arc as a yet another victim of Bojack’s abusive behaviors. But instead we get to see what “the day after” looks like for her, how her trauma and the hit to her reputation continue to affect her life and career even as she tries to move past them. It’s a really powerful, and really rarely seen in media example of how the effects of a relatively short traumatic relationship can last a lifetime. And then we even get a hint of a hopeful ending for her with the Fireflame billboard! I like to think that Gina eventually got the career she wanted and deserved.

I love the addition of the Fireflame billboard because there is so much implied by it. Fireflame is Kelsey Jannings film. At one point we see Kelsey talking to the director of the show where Gina is “being difficult.” He says something about how Gina used to be great to work with but now he can’t recommend her. Then we see from the billboard that Kelsey went with Gina anyway, potentially saving Gina’s career. I like to imagine Kelsey, having also been hurt by Bojack, put two-and-two together regarding the strangle interview, guessed why Gina was struggling, and decided to risk it and help her. I like to imagine Gina flourishing under a director that “saw her,” maybe Kelsey making a comment about what a piece of work Bojack was and Gina realizing Kelsey had her back. Gina seeing that her career isn’t over and having some space to start healing.

In the last episode, theres a billboard with gina on it for some big movie (I cant remember the name but i think it was some super hero thing) so it seems like she eventually suprassed her trauma
