so I’ve been rewatching Bojack Horseman and noticed a lot of things revolve or are related to the number 17. a lot of people say that number has to do with letting things go, here’s the list I have of stuff in Bojack being related to the number 17.

Bojack taking 17 minutes to call 911

Hollyhock being 17 when she first meets Bojack

Penny being 17 when she first meets Bojack

Bojack realizing 17 minutes into “The View From Halfway Down” that he’s drowning

the scene where Bojack and Diane are arguing at the award show starts at 17:00

I’m pretty sure Diane leaves 17 voicemails too when Mr Peanutbutter is running for office (this one isn’t 100%)

have y’all noticed anything else? I’m pretty sure it’s used so often to drive in the point about what he did to Sarah Lynn and the people around him but do you think it’s connected to anything else?

Some people believe that the number 17 is a number that represents change however it’s usually swayed towards change for the better, either way:
17 minutes to call 911 could be argued as the point where Sarah’s situation “changed” from saveable to too far gone
I think as someone else said the ages are more for the plot points of what they can do legally I also think the ages of Hollyhock and Penny being the same could be done to drive home the point of how bad BJ’s actions were
When he realises he’s drowning obviously that’s a point for something changing
The arguing changed BJ and Diane’s relationship
17 voicemails until she changed and gave up

Could be nothing but it’s defo interesting

Could also be worth noting that XXXTentacions album 17 heavily focuses around depression and other mental health struggles much like the show and X claims it’s a number that means a lot to him but his reasons for picking that number are very personal to him so I doubt it’s related in any way
