Personally I don’t think Greg did anything wrong or terrible, it’s just that Mr. Peanutbutter never really learned to process negative feelings (his brother sheltered him from anything bad) so when his state of artificial positivity is severely interrupted he just goes into a unnecessarily negative spiral for a while.
Nothing out of the ordinary. Just be his regular self, which sucks.
