i want to start this off by saying that i knew from the start that sarah lynn was doomed. i’d been spoiled for her death for years since i don’t care to avoid spoilers for things (it actually made me more interested in the show, and is one of the things that made me decide to finally watch it)

to people who think she was partly to blame for her own death, i agree with you. bojack absolutely should have called the paramedics as soon as possible and that was the final blow. but sarah lynn wasn’t sober, and the AA meeting they crashed during their bender shows that. she talks about drinking while being sober and doesnt care about lying to get her 9 month sobriety chip. she had alcohol easily accessible in her house. she went sober just to lower her tolerance so her highs would feel high again. she lied about being sober with no remorse

bojack’s actions did kill her. he didn’t call 911 until it was too late. he offered to party. he supplied her with hard drugs and then heroin, and without that temptation and supply she probably wouldn’t have overdosed when she did. but i don’t think the 17 minutes was entirely a conscious choice he made, at least not entirely. throughout the entire episode he was blacking out and losing a lot of time. the bender took weeks and he was unaware of most of that time passing. minutes felt like hours, days felt like moments, etc. who knows how long that 17 minutes felt at the time

i obviously know about the future episode where the 17 minutes is revealed. i have a rough idea what happens, but not all that’s discussed. if bojack didn’t miss the time from bender-induced amnesia then he didn’t miss the time. regardless, i think they both killed her together. her lack of care for herself and his need to sabotage himself and others killed her
