Please note - this isn’t me saying The Boys is better than Invincible. They’re both great shows. But HL is more of a dick than Omni-Man
Homelander is a baby man child little bitch and it’s great 👍
Mark is more of the Superman equivalent imo, Nolan is more akin to Zodd.
True, Invincible goes so far beyond just being a story about Superman if he were a dick.
Injustice was Superman but if he was a dick.
The Boys is Superman but there aren’t any supervillains and he exists as narcissistic gangster for corpos
If we’re going to simplify Invincible, I’d say it’s less “What if Superman was a dick?” and more like “What if Superman was General Zod’s son?”
The Boys (TV series) and Invincible start as Superman pastiches. That’s what they are but what’s important is that both Omni-Man and Homelander evolve to become their own characters with unique psychological profiles and placements in their world.
It’s usually an incredible oversimplification when people say that either is just evil Superman. It’s ironically so lazy. Better examples are Overman, Ultraman, Brightburn, Hyperion (Heroes Reborn) etc. Even then, some grew beyond their original homages and tropes to become interesting characters in their own right that have a vague resemblance to Superman.
But I agree. Invincible, Omni-Man and The Immortal all share vague traits to Superman. General Zod does have a son named Lor Zod. Heroic version was pre-New 52, closer to Invincible and became Nightwing, while there’s another version of General Zod’s son who’s evil like he is.
Remember the new Tick series? Amazon green lit (at least) 3 separate shows about a post superhero world where Superman is shitty.
Irredeemable is also coming to Netflix, apparently. That’s a solid comic book, but I expect non-comic-readers will see it as an Invincible/Boys ripoff.
Is the world saturated with superheroes and is there a justice league and is there a guy with Superman powers who can’t be trusted?
yes, yes. and – get this, the Superman guy turns against the justice league guys.
Similarities aside, Irredeemable is far more of a horror story (at least at the beginning) than Invincible, so I’m excited to see what they do with it.
