Is this normal or are my comprehension skills just poor? The first half of a book I’ll read 20 pages an hour and the second half I can get up to 40 per hour. Its the first book I’ve read by this author and it almost feels like I’m trying to decipher a different language. I have never been the best with comprehension and have ADHD so I have found myself re reading pages constantly.

Dude worked at and around the Santa Fe institute which is the premier scientific institution studying complexity and McCarthy would often correct and edit the papers of the scientists that worked there. And these are some of the best in the world.
His capacity for description imo stands toe to toe with Faulkner on his best day. His understanding of scene switching is better than any writer I’ve ever encountered.
