I have two. The Ritual and Drowning.

The Ritual is pure smut. 61 chapters and every one contains a graphic, demeaning sex scene. I’m convinced the author was an adult film screenwriter and decided to try their hand at writing a novel. There isn’t a single likable character in this book.

Drowning isn’t a great work of literature. I felt that the characters were very two-dimensional. I hated how naive the author made the protagonist. It made me have a lack of sympathy for her. The ending was series finale of Dexter bad.

I listened to The Murderer’s Son by Joy Ellis and it sucked. Everyone narrowed their eyes all the time, I’m amazed no one was banging into walls. At the end I guessed the killer two chapters before everyone else and had to sit through these squinty flatfoots bumbling about. There was also a really bizarre twist at the end that I hadn’t seen coming but was so inconsequential I was just like …huh.

They also spent a lot of the end of the book explaining why people did things which for a murder mystery I always feel means they didn’t do a good enough job in the rest of the book.

omg - this is hilarious. reading your comment gave me the same feeling as seeing a cockroach run across the wall

stupid audible was shilling the hell out of this one, and i was stupid enough to fall for it. i returned it. i’ve totally forgotten the minor twist, please remind me!

i was gobsmacked to discover that ellis’s wife is retired fairly high ranking police officer & wondered if she reads & provides any feedback?

!it’s utterly ridiculous that nurses would be resorting to the lincolnshire black market to buy tricyclic antidepressants like it was ecstasy. (happy pills/mothers little helpers)

It was like, >!the girlfriend of the guy who thinks he did it has this workmate always hanging around and you’re supposed to think she’s up to something… I thought maybe she was an undercover journalist but at the end she was just the girlfriend’s long-lost mum, and when the policeman said to the mum ‘do you want to tell Girlfriend that she is your daughter’ she was like ‘nah I’m good’ and just left town. It was like ??? Why did that happen?!<

The antidepressant thing had me like ??? as well like, what a stupid drug to put on the black market. If you’d said they were all off their tits on Adderall or Ritalin I’d have been like oh yeah I guess.

The whole thing just left me feeling like I’d eaten a bad McDonalds but without the satisfaction of having eaten something. Boo Audible for advertising it at me, and boo Joy Ellis for writing something so average.
