Consider this.

A puppy. You love them. They are apart of your family, you adore and care for them, but you know you will inevitably outlive them, no matter how much you take care of them. So you enjoy the time you spend with them as much as you can, despite it being temporary in your life, it’ll be their entire life for them.

Same idea here, though less mutt and more human.
