There is a scene that leads to speculation but is not fleshed out well. When Nate return home to live after quitting in Season 3, he plays his violin. His dad watches then they have a discussion. To me, his dad implies that he didn’t know how to parent someone like Nate. So was Nate a high IQ genius or music virtuoso? Was he on the autism spectrum? I think his great ideas on a specific topic coupled with underachieving and social awkwardness, and misuses of figures of speech could fit autism but also some geniuses are plagued with self-doubt or low self-esteem. Thoughts?

My girlfriend and I recently were talking about the way most, if not all, genius intellects are portrayed in TV and Movies. We’ve concluded that either they’re written and played as slightly to mostly on the Autisum spectrum because either that’s the way it is, or mostly to make them more sympathetic to those of us that are neither genius level intellects or autistic.

Not having much experience around someone with a genius level intellect, I couldn’t say for sure, but it sure does make me like these characters so much more!
