On Sunday (or early Monday, depending on your timezone), I’ll be streaming the four episodes of Wednesday Downtown that include the OBON KOBON segments. These episodes were all subbed by u/Zwanster03 (https://www.patreon.com/zwanster03/). Zwanster, if you see this, we’d love for you to drop by the channel during this time if you’re available.
Who are Obon Kobon? They are two older Manzai comedians who debuted in 1965. Without spoiling too much… they’ve been working together for many many years and have recently experienced some rough times together.
This will be streaming on the “Father_Jimmy_” 24/7 Twitch channel. For some reason, I can’t post a direct link to the channel, but you can go to the Twitch website and search for “gaki”. You should have no problem finding it.

If you’re new to the channel (or Twitch), there are all kinds of custom Gaki emotes that we use. I highly recommend that you use one of the browser extensions to see and use them. “7TV” seems to be the most recommended. Feel free to ask any questions. We hope you’ll join us!
It was really fun to watch it again.
However the overall experience for me was completely ruined by twitch chat, really shows that no matter the channel or content majority of chat will ruin everything. It were either really poor attempts at funny/meme comments that ended with such bad taste or straight up nonsensical, at times almost rude comments from some of the people. Although I have to say that I was surprised by the amount of psychologists that tuned in who were coming in with their great analysis and insight.
But w/e thats just one tired man rant.
My opinion is definitely biased, but I had a completely opposite experience. I find myself much more emotionally invested when reacting with others. The upsetting and touching moments landed with so much more weight. The act of mutual sharing during those pivotal scenes elevates the overall experience for me… and I believe the others feel the same way. My eyes were definitely tearing up in the last episode.
I went back through the logs to try to find comments that were “rude” and in “bad taste.” My apologies if anyone was rude to you, but I didn’t notice anything overly objectionable. I often mention that the channel is very chill, especially for Twitch. We’ve only had one real problem, and that person was banned and is no longer welcome back.
As for “nonsensical”… yes, there is a lot of that, and I’m guilty!! We obviously do not take things too seriously here. This isn’t a serious political Twitch stream like Hasanabi’s (I know that’s an extreme example, sorry), it’s a stream where we watch middle-aged and old men get compressed air blown up their assholes while arm wrestling while trying not to fart. I expect nothing less than nonsensical chat at least half the time. ;)
I love, love, love the regulars in the channel. They’re an awesome bunch of amazing people from around the world. Finland, Australia, Japan, Canada, Belgium, USA,etc. I hope you give the channel another chance. Come get silly with us as we watch poor Fishman beg people to “Let me give birth”. ;)
