In the beginning of “that’s too much, man” she still had the circles before Bojack called her to go on the bender. I thought the circles were an indication of when she was drinking/using.
i always thought the eyebags were just smokey makeup, it’s kinda common among younger people and she likes to seem edgy and eccentric
I figure she was waffling between sober and maintenance using, like when Bojack was rationing his alcohol.
She even says that in the AA meeting the “not drinking” isn’t one of the 12 steps. “Loophole!”. I’m not sure she ever took sobriety seriously. But that’s a really hard avenue for people to navigate IRL.
Hmm well she did tell Bojack “I’m sober now”, and I feel like she wouldn’t lie about something like that to Bojack
She told him that none of the steps was to stop drinking thus a loophole, she probably had drank before or simply considered using less a loophole as well
idk man i had eye bags way before i started getting high i always took that as more a subtle sign that she had underlying mental issues beneath her persona moreso than an indication that she was using

The only reason I referenced that is because right before she started using a lot she didn’t have the circles. In the episode where she said she’s “this close to falling apart”

A better term would be “dry” - it’s used in AA to mean someone who isn’t drinking or using but doesn’t have emotional sobriety.
She was sober for sure, but sober and dry.
I say it all the time… she had a bowl of vicodin, hanging in her kitchen, ready to go at a moments notice. Whatever she was, it wasn’t sober.
True I wonder about that sometimes too if Sarah Lynn found a loophole to collect her 9 month badge and the people on her AA meetings didn’t seem to notice or care that both her and BoJack were high af. She may have found another loophole to drink or use one or more times during those 9 months and never faced repercussions
Well she did face repercussions. She died because she couldn’t get sober
I know that during that break she was essentially just only getting sober to experience a new high again and I mean her house was filled with drugs. I feel like no one really speaks about that fact, even though it’s something that only us as the viewers see, not everyone else in the show. But I swear like barely anyone (excluding this post and the commenters) brings up the fact that she also was to blame for her own usage. I also swear no one brings up the fact that she literally stabbed herself 😭
I don’t think she ever was, if you look carefully she only used the Bonack bender as an excuse to publicly go wild. Privately I think she was still wilding out. Just my opinion
ive always thought she really was sober that time (even if it was for the “rush” (idk what to call it sorry) of doing drugs like the first time
I thought she was sober and she also had alcohol hidden around the house and drywall cocaine. Looking back I feel someone who struggled with addiction would get rid of those when trying to get sober.
I don’t think the bags were meant to indicate if she was clean/using, they’re meant to indicate that regardless of her own choices, her life is stressful and she gets very little sleep due to being busy all the time.

My honest opinion is she was drinking the whole time
I don’t think any of this was intended to indicate she was drinking.
They definitely wanted the impact of her being 9 months clean.
