why in the view from half way down, butterscotch horseman wasnt in it but a character which i think is secreteriant there instead i started watching in 2019 and have rewatched it surely 60+ times but never understood why butterscotch horseman wasnt in the episode

    Maybe because Bojack felt like Secretariat was his Dad. He always fled bad influence through Secretariat

    Symbolically Bojack looked up to Secretariat far more than his own father. There’s probably a lot of layered symbolism in having Arnett voicing him in Butterscotch’s voice, as well (beyond the practical reason of not getting the original va). Also, as far as I remember, they labeled Secretariat as his father for the scene, further emphasizing Bojack’s desire to have Secretariat as a proxy for his father.

    Secretariat was much more of a father figure to Bojack than Butterscotch was. Secretariat was someone accomplished that Bojack could look up to and admired (who he also probably had a parasocial relationship with), whereas Butterscotch was a seemingly unloving, unaccomplished figure in Bojacks life.
