It’s a confusing episode because it tries to have a moral of “don’t lie” which is usually reserved for children’s programming. It doesn’t really feel patronizing because I don’t get the impression that Matt Stone and Trey Parker give a shit whether I tell lies, but it makes the whole thing feel like it’s lacking some direction. Feels like they wanted to make an episode about the Pinewood Derby but couldn’t figure out what kind of story to tell. Stealing some kind of government device and achieving warp speed with a pinewood derby car is a hilarious setup, but it really meanders from there, especially when you know the ending already.
