Eve since I learned about Palestine and its history, I wanted to know more about the world. I wanna learn everything. I never liked studying when I was in school but now I’m craving for new knowledge. I got a book about the history of religion which I’m reading rn. I want to know more books about history of our world. Especially the ugliness and the beauty of our world. I want to start off by reading brief history that are for beginners but I don’t know which book is the best. I bought Silk Road but it’s pretty thic and I need something lighter that explains history more briefly but also not from Eurocentric viewpoint. I also want to know non fiction books about injustice in our world.
I recommend the AskAnthropology and AskHistorians reading lists
1001 ideas that changed the world is a good start, it gives a good broad strokes view.
One book to consider would be “Prisoners of Geography”. It gives some succinct insight into various geographical conflicts around the world (such as Middle East and Ukraine/Russia amongst others). The author has written follow up books as well.
Sapiens a brief history of mankind by Yuval Noah Harari
Not brief but Will Durant’s The Story Of Civilization series, he’s a renowned historian and The Story Of Civilization is his lifetime work.
I really like prisoners of geography and power of geography. By a British journalist so although there is inherent western skew he explains quite a few different countries and areas, like Ethioipia, the Sahel, Iran.
