Honestly, most days I’m agreeing with what Danielle is saying when it comes to finances, but the most recent episode (13/11/23) when Danielle asks Yohan to pay half the rent, plus bills etc. I think was super unfair. She has an American job, which pays American wages. Yohan is/was working for Dominican wages.

When Yohan said if he contributes the same he will have nothing left for himself. And I agree with him (if these facts are true)

In my personal opinion, I think financial contributions should be split by % of income. My partner (33M) contributes more to our household because he earns more. If I (29F) contribute the same, I wouldn’t have any personal savings or extra money for myself. When I was earning more, I was contributing to the household more. It goes both ways…

I actually have to take Yohan’s side on this, even though he is a dick. Danielle chose to live a comfortable lifestyle in the DR in that expensive apartment, when Yohan was used to living at home and not having the rent and bills that they do at the apartment. Did Danielle even discuss with him what the budget/bills would be if they moved into the apartment SHE wanted? If not, how can she expect him to pay such high rent and bills?

I understand when he talks about buying a house vs. renting. I am thinking in the DR people buy houses outright rather than mortgage it like in the US, so you own it and don’t have to make monthly payments allowing you to use that money for other things.

What she’s doing is financial abuse. This guy grew up with meager means, his family lives very modestly. He is simply not able to make the money he needs to pay for the lifestyle she wants. I hope he’s saving those TLC paychecks so that he can buy himself a home in the DR when their relationship ends.
