Fight Club. It wasn’t fun to read it felt like the author was ploying with me trying purposefully to confuse me to a point where it forced me to become disinterested. However with the movie i was captivated every second. The book’s attempt to obscure and mystify the reader might have been an intentional stylistic choice, but for me, it didn’t translate well.
ITT: movies that I didn’t know were originally books
The godfather
Stardust is a much better film than book. Tighter plotting, better characterisation; more action.
Sideways is a pretty mediocre book with a lot of weird side plots. The movie was more subtle and impactful.
Not a movie but I thought that “His Dark Materials” tv series on BBC was way more enjoyable than the books.
Story of your Life, by Ted Chiang, is good. Arrival is significantly better.
Mrs Doubtfire
The Prestige by Christopher Priest
All You Need is Kill - Hiroshi Sakurazaka
Fried Green Tomatoes
the book is a collection of news stories- i didn’t even finish it - it wasn’t for me - others may like it tho
but the movie can get me in the feels
No Country for Old Men
Beaches. They had conflict in the movie, but the book made it seem like they were “friends” just to outdo one another.
How to Train your dragon
Tuck everlasting
I don’t think the movie outdid the book, but it was completely different and also enjoyable: Ella Enchanted
Very strong agree on HTTYD!
Hidden Figures
Jaws, obviously… It’s a good book, to be fair, but the movie, well…
Possibly controversial but I like the movie of The Princess Bride much better than the book. The book felt kind of cynical in its humor and had some not great men describing women moments. The movie is almost more pure, like it feels like an expression of joy and laughter.
