My pick would have to be the A Whole Nother Story trilogy, in which (spoiler warning) you can only travel back in time. But because time is in a loop of sorts, if you go before the beginning of time, you will be at the end of time. From there you can go back to any time you want to. And time paradoxes cannot be produced. Plus, your memories from the previous timeline exist as well as the memories from the new one.

Connie Willis’s Oxford Time Travel series has the most interesting and believable time travel system I’ve encountered in any medium. The mechanics of it are integral to the plot of one of the books, so I won’t give an explanation here.

Came here specifically to mention To Say Nothing of the Dog, it’s lighthearted, hilarious, and just a delight to read. It was my first sample of the Oxford series, and I was silly enough to think they were all in this vein. Next I checked out The Doomsday Book and oof.

I haven’t read any of her other books even though I liked The doomsday book. The reason is that I didn’t like the fact that the main sort of plot in the future revolved around missing phone calls. Because all they had was landlines and the fact that no one manned such an important phone constantly or that she had at least thought of some kind of technology that could work, since they had managed to build a time machine, but apparently not thought it troublesome enough to do anything about long distance communication in their own time 😅 but I can safely read her other books then ?

I literally just finished Doomsday Book two days ago. The first 400 pages were kind of a slog, and I almost gave up several times. The last 150-200 pages were excellent and just flew by. I’ve been debating trying TSNOTD, (3 Men is one of my favorite books of all time) but have been hesitant about getting bogged down again. I will be rethinking it.

I found her Doomsday book at the thrift store years ago and devoured it. But To Say Nothing of The Dog was amazing. I love her WW2 books as well.

      Hey, I like spoilers.

Would you give me the details of the time travel mechanics of the series? You can use spoiler tags if you’d like.

To Say Nothing of the Dog is my number 2 book, right after Good Omens. It is a masterpiece. I’d love to see it given the same mini-series treatment as GO got.
