Alright tbf. It is 40 minutes but you know ehhhhhh. Its like marvel and dc for me. But they couldnt bother finishing all the scenes. Im just reminded from that amber clip like oh yea. Some scenes are cheap. I give it 6/10, fight scenes are always saved for last.
the animation for season 1 was so much better .
The animation is good at its peak, awful at its worst. It’s not even consistent. The Hammer shot is great, then 15 seconds later you watch the same bird fall from the sky 30 times. A lot of sloppy mistakes end up in the show and it leaves a bad impression.
it’s wildly inconsistent. it seems to have gotten better in S2, but who knows? they clearly save the budget for the action scenes but otherwise there are animation shortcuts that are inexcusable for something with this kind of production behind it
Seems a lot better when you think of them more as moving comic book panels… as sad as that is.
The higher-ups had all the time and money to establish a good pipeline for the animation staff while also hiring staff to work in-house, they did neither. And the result is what you see on the screen. Foreground and background elements don’t blend, the same 3D (turned 2D) props are copy-pasted all over a scene, character models aren’t consistent, compositing is messy, etc.
The premier episode should always look the best (alongside the big ones coming later) but S2’s premiere was okay at best with no real highlight to speak of (in terms of animation). Now compare that to S1, the character models were consistent and the 3D/2D blending was much better. We also had Omni-Man VS The Guardians (animated by the amazing Haeyoung Jung) which had amazing character animation!
There was ONE shot in the premiere that looked amazing and it was this one.
Invincible S2 could have been a LOT better but they decided to do as they did (maybe worse). The storyboard for the Depth Dweller fight was great (credit to Toniko Pantoja) and hopefully, they bring back their MVPs (Haeyoung Jung and Kevin Molina-Ortiz).
This might feel too harsh (or even nit-picky) to some but to see a critical and financially successful series be treated like this is always sad. S1 had many production issues, I hope at least they have been resolved for this season.
