Fun fact: According to IMDb, Cristo Fernández (plays Dani Rojas) actually started his professional life on the pitch before changing careers.
How much do we know about which actors actually made soccer moves in the show - versus having stunt doubles?
(I hope “Actor Fluff” is the right tag for this.)
Kola played semi-pro, I think.
Moe Jeudy-Lamour, Zoreaux’s actor, played football at Concordia University before he quit to focus on acting, but never soccer.
Canadian football is like American football except it has some rule differences that makes rugby’s influence on the sport stronger. He was wide receiver and said having that experience and being good at catching a ball helped filming goalie scenes
And you cannot forget, in addition to be faster than American football…
Out balls are bigger 🏈
Is that still the case? I thought they moved to a smaller ball to match the NFL a few years ago.
I stand corrected - balls changed size in 2018 or so.
Damn you Tim Hicks and your continued perpetuation of this stereotype.
I can’t remember where it saw it, but it was after season one can’t out. As part of being cast for the roles, I think they made sure that each of the players had to be able to demonstrate a certain level of soccer (football) skill because they didn’t want to have to bring in extra players for a lot of the bigger sports shots.
I listened to a podcast with one of the background actors, who said it was the weirdest audition he had ever been to, because it was just several hours of playing football.
There’s a lot of trivia of this in various interviews. From what I’ve read/heard Moe Hashim (Bumbercatch) is the best at football (he didn’t have experience acting at was hired just to be football background). Worst is Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) who barely played any. He made funny jokes that playing Roy Kent is the first thing his football hooligan dad has been proud of.
