Was there a reason they picked a horse ? Or was it Random?
Nominative determinism
Omg u/Snoo, you can’t just ask people why they’re a horse!
“You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.”
This is just off the top of my head, but all of bojacks friends try to lead him on the right path, and he is given many chances to go down the right path and he always chooses the wrong path. Horses are stubborn.
Think of an animal protagonist. Now think of them in his situation. Obviously other animals could be his character, but in the end it is both ‘it is what it is’ AND it just made sense to somebody. The most likely outcome is the one most likely to happen so if you see any sneaky wordplay in a character it was probably just something that just made sense to someone whether intentional or not.
Cause horses make a sound that sounds like a sigh. I am pretty sure that is atleast a pretty big reason
This was asked 5 days ago…
because to make him a donkey would be too on the nose
Because he always has a long face
I made a post about this a while back that got some great comments. You should read it.

Because his parents were horses.

Because horses live long lives but are only useful for showing and racing for the first few years of life, so they spend the vast majority of their life being retired - just like Bojack. Most race horses retire around age 3 but can live to be 30 years old, spending the remainder of their life breeding - so it’s the perfect animal to represent someone who’s a washed up star
