I choose this book to get a breif account of ancient history and possibly wisdom. But everytime I courage to read it, disappointment awaits me. I might be wrong with my reading as it the book suggests to be academic in its style.
Could you please tell me what I should expect from this book and is it really worth the time?
Herodotus’ Histories is a mixture of history, myth and legend, and it’s well worth the read.
Herodotus was a historian and geographer in an age when history was story and geography was legends or else pure mathematics.
He brought, by comparison, an element of factuality to both disciplines. Consequently his importance is in how he differed from those who went before.
If those things don’t interest you, you can safely skip him.
