I just finished Daisy Darker and even commented on an old thread but I desperately need some validation about this.
They coordinate their Halloween costumes so they went as the lion, the witch, and the pumpkin? Huh??? Am I missing something? It’s so bizarre. Is there a pun I’m missing? I tried googling it and the only thing that came up was my own comment about it. I even asked a British friend lol. I read all the Narnia books and don’t understand this at all.
Also how are more people not talking about how absolutely bizarre Nana’s dinners were?! Chicken with sprinkles??? Wtf! I had to put the book down for a bit. Most shocking part of the book.
This book was a disappointment to me. I thought it had so much potential!
Ok it has been a minute since I read it but, was daisy the pumpkin? Because in my mind they were leaving her out of the group costumes
It was such a strange book, I was just along for the ride. Usually I will reread a book like that but when I read it, I had borrowed it from the library, then I bought it and promptly loaded it out
She also had chicken with chocolate gravy, and chocolate-filled ravioli guess we not eating at her house this year 😭😭
Revolting. “It was surprisingly good!” Girl no it wasn’t.
I haven’t read this but it sounds like you’re overthinking it and it’s just offbeat on purpose.
The food definitely was meant to be that way

Agree! It was really corny to me and I didn’t really feel the suspense even though it was very high stakes the whole time.
Is it just one reference the Halloween costumes? Maybe the author originally had a different trio, then decided to change it, and somehow she (and copyeditors) missed getting it right? Like, that doesn’t seem super likely, but that is not an iconic trio at all…I haven’t read the book though. Could it have been the other characters icing Daisy out by making her feel foolish? Like they have come as a lion, witch, and pumpkin independently of each other and then sort of gaslight her into thinking that she can’t join them because her costume doesn’t fit?
It’s mentioned three times and part of a key event in the book.
I actually think the second guess is totally in line with the characters but the way it’s written doesn’t seem that way.
I’ll be honest I wasn’t too impressed with the book so I was more looking for someone else to say “yeah that was weird” than unpack it trying to figure out what the author’s intention was.
