It does make me laugh… before I remember what this show is actually about.
I’m gonna watch the episode today. I feel like there’s probably more context for which that line would make sense as a callback to Bojack.
It could just be a coincidence too though 🤷♂️

It is 100% a reference. Rick and Morty has a lot of random references so why not Bojack Horseman, since they have a lot of overlapping themes and both are very popular animated shows
That’s what I figured but usually their references are more blatant than this
I feel like usually the references is just something going on in the background for like 3 frames. This is pretty much in your face
They usually outright state the titles of movies and shows they reference, including referring to what they’re doing as a movie title by using it as a verb (“Rick, is this a ‘SAW’ game? Are you seriously ‘SAW’-ing The Vindicators?”) Although they probably do have a ton of background stuff I miss. This is pretty blatant for Bojack fans, though, so you’re definitely right about it being in our faces.
