A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has said he's written 1,100 pages of next book The Winds of Winter, the same amount he'd written as of December 2022, while also revealing there are eight Game of Thrones spin-off shows being worked on.
I just expect it to be wrapped up by his assistant and friend who wrote The Expanse. Hell, that series was probably written as a resume to get the gig. “Look we finished an epic series in the same time he hasn’t put one book out”.
At one point I was huffing some serious hopium thinking maybe he was doing like lord of the rings production, where he’s writing both books simultaneously to be sure to tie things together.
I now have zero faith this is the case, and it’s obvious he’s no longer interested in this project.
What if he just says “fuck it” and actually publishes Wind, BUT it’s the ending of the series? Like an 1100 page book where most characters die and everything goes to shit and the long winter arrives and only some scrappy remnant of humanity remains. Not some big triumph by one of the houses. Just doom and gloom. But an ending all the same.
I like to think the next book is already written but in an extremely rough shape.
And the reason why this current book is taking so long is because he has to essentially write both books at once with alot of key stuff to align.
So in my fantasy dream land once the current book comes out itll take ALOT less time to do the last or if he dies theyll probably release the rough copy as its essentially finished just without any polish.
At this point I don’t even care any more. Even if Winds does come out, A Dream of Spring is never seeing the light of day.
That’s why it’s a dream.
We was duped!

So when the book does get released, are you not gonna buy it?

I’d respect that more than the long tease.
Yeah, I’m not reading winds until spring goes into print for release
