The funniest thing to me is that this isn’t even supposed to be the last book of the series. If by some miracle he lives long enough to finish this one, there is still zero chance he finishes the series.

I’ve just always had this delusional hunch that George is just writing both books concurrently at this point. So when he finally releases winds he’s done, or mostly done, with the next book so he doesn’t have to go through this all again.

I started reading the series when I was 18yo, I’m 38 now. The wating between AFFC and ADWD was nothing compared to this.

I’m a middle age man now and I dont really care if he ever get to finish the series or not, life goes on

A Dream of Spring will actually turn out to be like ten pages long. It will be revealed that the whole thing was something Bran dreamed while he was unconscious after being thrown off the tower. That’s also why he became king in the show.

That’s the thing, I don’t even know if I’d bother buying it if it came out at this point. If he was talking about finishing both the books and releasing them within a year or two of each other I would probably bite. But reading another potential 1000 pages of tapestry and diarrhea descriptions just to have another frustrated possibly endless wait…. Nah.

This is already me opening A Dance With Dragons, making it up to the nth sentence about Tyrion’s cock, closing the book and never touching it again

Worst part is that it’s been so long and the plotlines grew so numerous we’d probably have to start reading from the begining all over again

As someone who started reading “The Wheel of Time” when only the first two books had been published, I really feel for GRRM fans.

And I’d be fine with it. The books are good. I would never want them to be rushed, because I wouldn’t want the book to suck.

But, because the show sucked in the end, I don’t even care how much of it he’s written, because I have no excitement to read it.

Of his original three part series, I think we’re almost at the end of the second right?

So I’m pretty sure the “final” book would end up being split into two or three. By which time George will be a healthy 127 years of age.

Why everyone hasn’t given up hope is actually quite baffling to me. I ain’t mad at the dude. Maybe one day I’ll be shocked if I’m out shopping and see it on the shelf one day. Shit yeah id buy it. But I’m not thinking about it anymore.

I started those books at a very different time in my life. Time has moved on, and so have I.

I imagine some scene where GRRM is on his deathbed and all his would be successors gather around him. “Lord, who will inherit your quagmire?” “…to the person who waits the longest!” And the writers look at each other, and the Long Night beings.

He’s old enough for there to be a workable version of Winds of Winter released. Dream of Spring? Odds not looking good on that one — and that’s IF he can wrap things up in two books. Just the stuff we saw on TV, that would require more than two books. Factor in the subplots and yeah it’s not good.

He could finish them if he wanted to an in less than a couple of years I reckon. Because its not an issue of work load, it just seems he’s just lost interest in the series and hasn’t found the passion to go back to it. After all this time he has probably forgotten where he left every plot-line off and where was it going. He’s a notoriously disorganized writer and it doesn’t help that he also doesn’t take his deadlines like a professional responsibility because he doesn’t believe he owes anyone anything even tho he kinda does.

i seriously hope he has a plan B, written down in like 5 sentences “at the end, this character wins, this character doesn’t, and everyone else is dead” for people to find after his death.

i do not trust the tv show producers to tell us the truth.

Conspiracy theory: he hasn’t written this one because he’s actually been working on the final one first before he finishes this one and he’s been fucking with us the entire time

He needs to get a couple of assistants to help him put together his thoughts and also keep him on task.
