It’s not the main character well sorta it’s a main character but he’s not THE main character.

It’s Rodger from the outlander series like just go away. If you’ve only watched the show trust me he’s way worse in the books.

Like bro just go tf away I can’t keep reading about you!

He’s not even seen as a bad guy like no he’s written I think as like oh a flawed human being but he loves her so much and he’s really a good guy. But no he’s awful I hate him.

I’m on the 4th main novel I hope he gets killed off at some point then never mentioned again because I can’t even.

I think maybe he was written to sorta be like Jamie. How Jamie and Claire’s relationship is push and pull and sometimes even a bit too aggressive imo. But Rodger and Jamie are not the same at all uh uh not at all. Briana and Rodgers relationship is like the Walmart version of Claire and Jamie. Like the poor girl needs a different guy.

There are 9 main novels so far and they’re BIG BOOKS so lots of reading too much of Rodger in them

How do I survive this?! I love the books but sometimes I find myself pausing for several days after I’ve just read two chapters staring Rodger in a row and oh here’s a third

I hate listen to the deadwood mysteries. Love the writing the world the supporting characters. I hate the main or at least her parenting, so I hope for character growth and relish the bs she suffers. Others like Rudy from dresden files I just pray they outlive their usefulness.

I legitimately skip sections of the book if they’re entirely about that character. I punted parts of Game of Thrones because I just didn’t want to read about certain characters, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t even miss much.

Welp, he’s not going anywhere. I agree I am not a fan of his and I have read up to 7. I gave up on the series altogether when I realized my happy Scotland tour and historical fun was shot in the face by American civil war drama and lengthy descriptions puss etc. not a huge romance reader anyway so we parted ways lol. DNF if it bothers you that badly life is too short and those books are very long.

Life is too short and there are too many other books to keep reading something that annoys you. I made that mistake with the Thomas Covenant novels and swore “never again!”

I stopped after Book 4 because, cool, well-researched and expansive as DG’s writing is, I could no longer accept that all of juicy history within a 50-year-period had happened to the same people.

Rodger/Brianna factored into that choice. I do still want to know the “who is the ghost person outside Claire’s window in Book I” but I will check forums like this when the last book drops and read that one chapter.

I’m going through that atm with ACOSF. I skim the pages or listen to an audiobook with 2x speed.

I rant about their bullshit to my friends and keep reading, as long as there are other things that keep me interested. I don’t usually hate characters with a passion, mild dislike is the most I can muster (unless it’s something egregious or deeply personal), so I’m good.

The same way I get through life when I dont like a character. I just be grateful it’s not me acting like that, and I move on.

just watch out for movies and books where all the characters are evil. one horrid character in the mix is usually required for tension. but if you cant really cheer for any of them, you can probably do better.

I have enjoyed the books but, unpopular opinion, I don’t like Claire. She’s so self righteous and, since it’s told from her perspective, she’s got the highest opinion of herself. Pbbbbbt. Shockingly, that hasn’t stopped me from reading the books - even though she’s nearly gotten Jamie killed more times than I can recall.

I watch the series, also, off and on. Still don’t really like Claire, but Catriona Balfe plays the role wonderfully. Sam Heughan looks absolutely nothing like I’ve been picturing Jamie, for the 30 years since I first read Outlander - so that was a disappointment. And, frankly, I think he plays Jamie like a petulant child seeking Claire’s approval, which is off putting. But, Lawd, Dougal was nice to look at. lol
