Mine’s The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath. Thick books never stopped me from reading nonstop before, but there are entries in the book that just has me stopping and taking time to mull things over.

Also, sharing this excerpt: “Not to be sentimental, as I sound, but why the hell are we conditioned into the smooth strawberry-and-cream Mother-Goose-world, Alice-in-Wonderland fable, only to be broken on the wheel as we grow older and become aware of ourselves as individuals with a dull responsibility in life?”

I normally read 3 or 4 books. It hasn’t been that long yet, 3 months?, but Infinite Jest is going to take some time. The man is infuriating. This better be worth it or else. I’m also reading Emma by Jane Austen, The Glass Bead by Hesse and the Hitchhikers Guide but Infinite Jest is a challenge.

Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari. I started it back in July 2019 for my work’s book club, finished and went to the pub event for the parts 1 and 2, realized I couldn’t make the second meeting for parts 3 and 4 and stopped reading. At the start of 2021 I made a pact to finish it…which resulted in me reading one additional chapter and putting it down again. It is still sitting on my “currently reading” list on goodreads.

Sacrelige on this subreddit, but I’m stuck in the middle of The Count of Monte Cristo. The guy has just arrived in Rome and I have no idea where the plot is going. That frustrates me.

I have been meaning to catch up on the newer books in the Dune series by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. I caught the first few, but then got focused on other series and need to circle back and catch up.

According to goodreads, I’ve been reading A Promised Land by one of my favorite humans, Mr. Barack Obama since January 2021 😬 I started reading it shortly after getting it and am I think about halfway through and haven’t touched it since probably that February.

But you’ve inspired me to finish it before the year ends!
