I remember reading about 8+ hours every single day for my entire vacation a year and a half ago. I loved it. Now, I find it difficult to read more than 20 pages (fiction or non-fiction). I’ve started to read more philosophy and psychology lately as well. That hasn’t really helped with the enjoyment factor of reading.

At this point, I read more out of interest and the will to learn than enjoyment, but I’d like to enjoy reading like I did in the past. Factors that are involved in the issue are my slow reading pace and less free time (about 4 hours daily).

I was just wondering if any of you have had the same issue and how you’ve been able to deal with it or get rid of it completely. I would like to hear other people’s thoughts on the matter since it has been feeling like I’m falling out of love with literature, which I really do not like.

What helped me (similar situation as OP): actively set some time apart in the evening (tear myself away from my computer/phone), find/create a comfy place (couch with a lot of pillows), dimmed lights, some nice drink, and smooth music…and just relax and read. This build me back up to the point where I can actually look forward to an evening of reading (at first 10 minutes, then 15…20…etc). Don’t push it, enjoy it.
