I’ve read the novel twice now. Each time, I can’t help but suspect some nefarious activity from the housekeepers, as well as some shady past from the previous owner.

The previous owner was a former Navy captain (I think a captain) and traveled a lot. He had lots of occult books that were left in the bookshelves. Also, the current housekeepers worked for him as well.

I always wonder if they played some part in the possession. I know Chris’ lack of belief did, but what about them?

Karl also sits by her bed a lot.

The whole thing makes me want to know more about the housekeepers and the previous owner.
