I’ll start: Ernest Hemingway.

I have a ton of respect for him, he influenced so many writers and the craft of writing, and he lived a fascinating life. But I just find his books to be so damned dry. I love simplicity but I just feel like there’s no voice or soul in any of his books. There’s experiences but I don’t feel any passion or something that moves my heart. I guess his topics just aren’t for me.

What about all of you?

Don’t attack me, but Tolkien. His writing is great but plot wise , I gave up on Lord of the Rings about halfway through the Two Towers because I didn’t really have an emotional connection to the characters . Give me not as good writing or short but depth any day (Hello ‘ The Little Prince’) or both if possible (War and Peace says Hi)

I won’t attack you stranger. (And War and Peace is on my shelf waiting to be read. It’s…big and heavy and I’m frightened.)
