Is there any book that is considered a classic or regularly shows up on the “100 books to read before you die” lists and such, you had high expectations before reading and then you ended up absolutey detesting?
For me it’s Blindness by José Saramago, it started off good and then page after page it was becoming more unbearable for me to read, I hated the characters, the things they were doing and the conclusions of the book. I was really disappointed because the plot seemed really good and all I ended up with was frustration.
Is there a book that did the same to you?
I can’t say a ZERO. But I am not happy with a lot of HP Lovecraft’s works. He had good ideas. But a lot of it dragged on way too long. Uses words out of date even back when he wrote them, unless we assume he was using them for what ever intellect was recalling the incidents.
I mean he had great ideas, but plagued by way too often bland moments. Been told it was a way to get paid for longer stories. Still a pain to read though.
They’re good to build your vocabulary
Try The Music of Erich Zahnn if you haven’t already. The best one, I think. Should be free online. I agree with you on the rest.
I definitely enjoy the derivative works and lore from HP Lovecraft than his writing itself.
