Is there any book that is considered a classic or regularly shows up on the “100 books to read before you die” lists and such, you had high expectations before reading and then you ended up absolutey detesting?
For me it’s Blindness by José Saramago, it started off good and then page after page it was becoming more unbearable for me to read, I hated the characters, the things they were doing and the conclusions of the book. I was really disappointed because the plot seemed really good and all I ended up with was frustration.
Is there a book that did the same to you?
“Walden” by Henry David Thoreau. To be fair, haven’t read it since high school and have forgotten almost all of it, but I hated it so much. It was so boring and then I found out that a bunch of the stuff he said was just a lie so he could present himself as this cool self-sufficient loner in the woods. So not only did he lie, but even when he lied about his experience it was still boring.
Absolutely agreed, to this day the most dry, boring thing I have ever read.
It’s the book equivalent to claiming you are living off the land on your shitty blog while ordering pizza twice a week.
