But objectively, i dont think bojack entirely was in the wrong for what happened with him and Penny.
Let me explain
To make this clear, i do not believe in the idea of a child x adult relationship. I think it’s wrong, i think it’s gross, especially with that age gap.
This being said, in the shows perspective.
Bojack had told Penny several times that he didn’t want to be pressured. He didn’t want to pursue her. He wasn’t going to kiss her or actively seek sex with her. And she asked several times.
Let me debunk some claims.
• “Penny was drunk.” You never see her, at all in the entire episode, take even the smallest sip of alcohol. In fact, im pretty pretty certain that she said no to alcohol in the episode.
• “Pennys a child, she can’t consent.” While this is true, she is 17. She is old enough to understand that no means no. She is old enough to understand that pushing yourself onto someone to get what you want is not okay. She is old enough to understand that asking several times does not mean someone is going to say yes.
• “Bojacks the adult, he shouldnt have agreed to it in the end.” I can’t even debunk this because for shaw, bro is the adult. He knew what he was doing. He should have continued to be firm with his rejection.
But this still leads to the fact Penny still went onto bojacks boat after he said no, and proceeded to what we can theorize, is ask and try to convince bojack again.
There is not a whole lot of difference between someone who is 17 and someone who is 18 maturity wise. While bojack still should’ve stayed firm, it doesn’t excuse the fact that Penny pushed herself into him.
Honestly I think that if penny was 18 it would still be as bad cuz that’s still a teen and bojack is in his mid 50’s I think at this point, so it’s still extremely fucked up
I know im getting a shit ton of downvotes.
