I’ve seen people talk about actors and artists that had a terrible time.

My own would be Anne Rice. She wrote Interview with the Vampire after her young daughter died of Leukemia. Then her husband suddenly died of a brain hemorrhage. I suspect her Christian, anti-fanfic phase was a result of mental illness and manipulation from the publishers, although I don’t think she ever apologized.

to be fair, she wasn’t alone in being horrified by the casting of tom cruise. cruise was super typecast as this flashy action hero and wasn’t considered to have much depth as an actor. many of the reviews echoed anne rice and expressed surprise that he was able to carry it off so well.

A lot of his more dramatic undertakings didn’t exactly go over great, Far and Away comes to mind lol. Really bad accent. I remember the fans being up in arms about it too, and there was a story about her sitting outside theaters to ask fans their thoughts opening week. But she did ultimately love his performance, which must have been validating to him after such a stink.

It just dawned on me Exit to Eden was another book that was totally butchered for the big screen and it was one of her early erotica bdsm and it freaking stared Rosie O’Donald and Dan Aykroid and was made into a comedy ffs.

Maybe that why she became so protective of her characters…?
