I’ve seen people talk about actors and artists that had a terrible time.
My own would be Anne Rice. She wrote Interview with the Vampire after her young daughter died of Leukemia. Then her husband suddenly died of a brain hemorrhage. I suspect her Christian, anti-fanfic phase was a result of mental illness and manipulation from the publishers, although I don’t think she ever apologized.
Tolstoi’s wife…he was like 16 years older than her, basically gave her his diaries to read on their wedding night in which he detailed his affairs with a serf woman (he and his family had total power over) and continued putting one baby after another into her completely squashing any creative spirit the woman had. Later in life he became a religious guru who threw a way the fortune that should have gone to his children and wife. And in one of his novels called the Kreutzersonata he describes how a husband kills his wife and back then everyone thought Tolstoi was writing about his own family. Tolstoi’s wife actually wrote a counter novel to this to explain the wife’s perspective. It was not published until 2008. She also wrote another novel. Her diaries are apprently even worse but then I avoid diaries.
