Hello everyone on this awesome subreddit! Wondering about reading habits…I’ve always been a 20 minutes before bed kinda person but I’d like to read more and be more spontaneous with my reading. Do you read a certain amount of pages or time per day? Or just read whenever and how ever much you want? Maybe a certain time of day? Basically I guess Explain to me your daily reading habits or routine ! If you feel like it I mean.
Any answers appreciated! Thank you so much!!
20 mins or more on avrg, could be 0.
Whatever I’m in the mood for most of the time I’ll finish a book in a day or two sometimes not even a chapter.
Usually I’ll read for about an hour a day with my morning coffee, unless my pesky job needs me for something. And I’m a bit insane when it comes to tracking on a spreadsheet how many minutes/pages I’m reading…
I will read all day if my day allows for it.
Some days I will read the entire day but usually I read for about 1 hour to 2 hours.
During the week I will read about half an hour in the morning and about an hour after work. I don’t usually read on Saturdays. On Sundays I will read all day.
Well I’m currently reading a rotation of six books I read each one for about two hours each and I do that a couple times a day
I read when I can/when I feel like it. I have 1 physical and 1 audiobook on the go at any given time, so I can listen to a book if I can’t focus on the words. I bring my physical book wherever I go, and I pull it out in whatever spare time I have. I have also been walking and reading since I was about 5, so I read on my walk to work. Some days, that’s about 20mins of reading, some days its more like 7hours.
Each one of us will read in different ways depending in part on our particular reason for reading this text at this time of the day. So deciding why and how you want to read this text may determine the time of the day and the amount of time you set aside for it.
For example. At those times when my mind is most alert and ready to absorb information, usually early in the day, I read non-narrative non-fiction because I can easily grasp and retain the information contained. At the end of the day, when I am tired I can easily grasp narratives but not much else so I tend to read light or light-ish fiction mostly. Back when I was a commuter by train every day I would read a ‘difficult’ book on my way into work and an ‘easy’ one on my way out because that was the most efficient and enjoyable way of managing my reading.
TL;DR version would be: work out what your mental terrain is and then choose the horse best adapted to run across it.
Normally about 2 hours. Depends on book though. I can read a good novel in one sitting.
Something I started doing a while ago and has done wonders for me is to read in most moments when I’d use my phone - ie when I’m eating, in the bathroom, doing simple chores that use only one hand, or even walking lol Since I have very little time - full time working + uni - I just put my reading in every single empty time slot I have. And in a day that amounts to 1-2h even. Plus it gets me off my phone, which is great.
I probably read for an hour ish per day. Unless, the story grabs me in the first 5 pages and then 4 to 5 hours later I’m finishing the last page!!!
I read mostly on my day-offs. That’s when I have the energy to truly focus on the text. On a day-off I usually start reading right after I wake up. I make some coffee and read about 2-3 hours, in summer I read on my balcony and in winter I might go to the library to read.
I try to continue reading in the evening if I have the time. Overall I end up reading around 100-250 pages on a weekend. I do read on workdays too, but that’s more random and less frequent.
I almost never read right before bedtime. Just not a habit for me I guess.
1-3 hours. I have my Pocketbook on me and might read at the store or while walking somewhere. Then I also read an hour or two before bed.
Has anyone heard of the app Goodreads? Download it n have a look.
I set a challenge of 40 books every year. I could do more, but I work 12hr shifts in a care home so… 😁
My goodreads challenge this year is 150 books including 120 from Netgalley. I am on target at the minute.
For anyone who doesn’t know what Netgalley is, it is a website where you can request free pre-release books in exchange for reviewing them on sites such as Amazon or on a blog/vlog. I have been a member since 2019 and have reviewed almost 600 books.
