I am looking for a translation of both the Iliad and The Odyssey that has a more modern feel to it. Im looking for a version that also reads more like a book rather than an epic poem. I know there are a million different translations of the original. That being said I’m sure there is something close to what I am looking for. I have always had an interest in mythology so let me know of any other books I should look into! (I have interest in several mythologies not just Greek/Roman)
You could try the Emily Wilson translations. I haven’t read them, but they’re supposedly quite modern and well-reviewed. I think they may still be in poem form though. I read the Fagles translations a few years ago and really liked them, but again, they’re in poem form and may not be as modern as you’re looking for.
