Nate is and will always be my least favorite character. Because the team was so harsh towards him in the first season, I’ve tried to maintain a level of sympathy for him but i can’t.

We all know what he did to Ted was absolutely terrible, but I’d also like to talk about how he used Will as his personal punching bag. I think it’s definitely “full circle” in the sense that he’s now mean to the kit man because people were mean to him, but he was so awful to a kid who was harmless and wanted nothing but the best for the team. He’s incredibly power hungry and egotistical i can’t stand it. He was forgiven far too quickly by the team and by Ted for everything that he had done. and while I understand that Ted is always kind because he doesn’t know what a person may be going through, Nate exploited and exposed Teds mental health struggles for his own personal gain. that’s unforgivable, in my opinion.

Another thing I find weird is Jade and Nate. Jade immediately rejects nate and makes it very clear that she isn’t interested, and then somehow ends up dating him? I didn’t really enjoy their plot and I didn’t think it was natural. It felt very weird and forced.

what are everyone’s thoughts?

Jade is at work. What is she supposed to do? Flirt with the customers? She shows she is interested after he makes it clear he is interested. Before that he is just a customer who mumbles and bumbles around (due to his insecurities). She is either unaware of his interest in her, or is uncomfortable that the guy who comes in and can barely talk to her is hanging around to be close to her.

He’s one of the best written characters for me because he is both likable and despicable at the same time. No one is all good or all bad, all likable or unlikable.

Doing my best to be curious instead of judgemental; but I’m frankly getting sick of this overplayed shit take.

The whole show is about not judging people over their weakest moments and forgiveness. Hate Nate if you wish; it means you’re missing the point.

Every time someone makes one of these posts (or a post tearing apart Michelle) I think this is a person who missed the whole point of the show.

a shit take how? he did terrible things. and while i’m well aware of the message of the show, had someone done the things that Nate did in real life, I would 100% think less of them.

Again it’s literally the antithesis of the entire show. Forgiveness in their point of weakness - it’d be the same as saying that you’ll never forgive Rebecca because of what she did originally to Ted, despite the fact that she spent the next 2 seasons doing everything possible to make up for it.

You get to see a damaged character spiral into their own negative mental state, lash out, and then almost immediately begin regretting their decisions that hurt those they actually care about. Nate suffers from having his arc conclude near the end of the show, meaning you don’t get to fully reconnect with ‘liking’ him once he’s part of the team again; but this overwhelming vitriol wishing he got an unhappy ending is just absurd.

Would you wish the same of Beard had his betrayal happened on screen? Because it’s the EXACT SAME SITUATION. Ted gives someone his trust, they betray him in a moment of weakness, and he gives a second chance at redemption; despite it not being something they’ve earned.

No one is wishing he got an unhappy ending, that’s not what I’m saying at all. I’m simply saying that the things that he did, not just to Ted but to the people around him, are things that I personally could not look past.

Also, while you may feel that you have the one and only accurate interpretation of Ted Lasso, don’t forget that I am allowed to interpret the show differently than you. and therefore I’m allowed to like or not like whomever. That doesn’t mean my interpretation is wrong, it just means that it’s different. Everyone in this reddit has varying favorite and least favorite characters.

Hurt people hurt people. When somebody is acting like a jerk, look for what’s hurting and forgive them.

This is literally the whole point of this show.
