For me for example its “Eat me - a natural and unnatural history of cannibalism” by Bill Schutt. Its an amazing book that covers cannibalism in animals and then the history of it in humans (cultural, survival & medicinal cannibalism).

I got a lot of “oh why would someone read something like that?” And “that not something fun to read about!” From relatives but my friends enjoyed the stuff that I could tell them about cannibalism!

May I recommend not one but two books?

First, A Distant Mirror by Barbara Tuchman. It’s a history of Europe in 1347, the year when the Black Death decimated parts of the continent.

Next, Between Two Fires by Christopher Buhlman. It reads like a Ren Faire insult comic read Tuchman and was inspired. It’s a horror novel with a group of folks trying to get to the pope in Avignon for important reasons while the Plauge plagues around them and the forces of heaven and hell battle.
