Out of all the quotes and moments from this amazing episode. This one struck out to me most. When Bojack and Secretariat are out for a smoke break, Secretariat is expressing his perspective on his life. Everything he did was pointless, because at the end of it all, here he was. It was all pointless, no matter his achievements and his aspirations, he ended up with everyone else. My question is, why was secretariat, out of everyone else, given this nihilistic approach on things? Sure it fits his character well, but I think any other character could’ve said it and it would have had the same significance, so why secretariat?
I always thought that it was because that was bojack’s own spiteful opinion on life, His dad/secretariat was that same voice in his head during “Stupid Piece of Shit” The man Bojack craved to appease while also hated in that oh so special distant-father x son sort of way.
All of the people at the dinner party where bojack’s own mind projected with his guilt, his self-hatred and his own way of thinking about death.
I think Secretariat was a mean spirited nihilist because the man who bojack wanted to be while, feared to become and in some way has become was a mean spirited nihilist.
It’s because it was also his dad
Butterscotch dedicated decades to his novel, while also neglecting and abusing his family, which played part in shaping Bojack into who he is
Creating art is one of the best way to give your life any meaning, as it can inspire and influence others even after you pass on.
But in the end, novel ended up being bad and forgotten. So it was all for nothing
