I’ll go with the low-hanging fruit: Mein Kampf. I’ve read it, cover to cover. As a piece of propaganda, it’s good. As an example of good writing? Absolutely not (though I will admit I have only read it in translation). Oh, and the whole fascist, racist, and generally shitty worldview of the author that he infuses into the text. And the fact that the author is literally Hitler. You 5-star that book? You’re a Nazi. Period. And as a Jewish person, I don’t look too kindly on them.
I’ll be as gentle as possible, but when a person put that “Harry Potter books should all get Pulitzer Prizes!”
I was like, we’re done here - swipe left.
I don’t have a problem with the books - I really don’t; in fact it engaged a lot of younger people and adults into reading and using imagination.
However… I think think this won’t be a date.
I don’t even think those books are allowed to win the Pulitzer. Not precisely sure of the rules, but I’m pretty sure you have to be a United States citizen or your book has to be originally published in the States. I was under the impression that the Pulitzer was a purely American award.
I had no idea (but looked it up and you’re correct! - with some exceptions). I was ignorant on that point. The Swipe Left was more about the content, but you’ve demonstrated a really important note that maybe I don’t always have the full story either.
Maybe I should’ve swiped right LOL (No, no, no, I’m glad I didn’t, but you get my drift).
As a HP fan… anyone who thinks that is ridiculous. They’re children’s books, and have so many plot holes. Not to mention characters like Fenrir who exist solely for edgy, humanity-hating, gorey shock factor. They have a special place in my heart, same as the movies. But I wouldn’t buy them… They’re not really worth the money… plus, it goes into that b*tch’s wallet. Thankfully my father had purchased the entire series before I was born, soo… but yeah, as cool as the world in them is, they’re not the end all be all that some people seem to think they are.
My biggest problem with them is that I’m an adult and they’re children’s novels, and yet I’m constantly being asked if I’ve read them, do I like them, what about the movies, etc. I was lukewarm about them before Rowling turned into a flaming transphobe. Now I despise them and people act like I shot their dog.
You’re too young to be on reddit if this is true.
Deathly Hallows was published in 2007. That’s 16 years ago, which is above reddit’s minimum age.
