I’m a big time Ishiguro fan and can’t for the life of me understand why his books are rated so low on Goodreads?

My hunch is that he doesn’t always go for the happy endings, not always a perfect resolution, and can leave someone unsettled but the books themselves are great works of literary art. It won’t end like some superhero movie with the good guys saving the world from the bad guys

But am I missing something?

Also no spoilers on any of his books!

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, I don’t have real-time data, and I cannot access current information or updates on specific book ratings on Goodreads. However, it’s important to note that book ratings on platforms like Goodreads can be subjective and vary among readers. There are several factors that could contribute to lower ratings for a particular author or book:

Subjectivity of Taste: Different readers have different preferences, and not every book resonates with every reader. Some may not enjoy Ishiguro’s writing style, themes, or storytelling techniques.

Expectations: If readers approach a book with certain expectations based on the author’s previous works or the book’s marketing, they may be disappointed if the book doesn’t meet those expectations.

Complexity of Themes: Ishiguro often explores complex and thought-provoking themes in his novels. Some readers may find these themes challenging or not to their liking.

Narrative Style: Ishiguro’s writing style is often subtle and understated, which may not appeal to all readers. Some may prefer more explicit or fast-paced narratives.

Cultural and Historical Context: The cultural and historical context of a novel can impact how readers connect with it. If readers are not familiar with or interested in the context of Ishiguro’s works, it may affect their enjoyment of the books.

Timing and Trends: External factors, such as current literary trends or the timing of a book’s release, can influence how it is received by readers.

It’s important to keep in mind that book ratings are subjective, and what works for one reader may not work for another. Additionally, opinions on books can change over time as more readers engage with the material and as critical perspectives evolve. If you’re interested in understanding specific criticisms or praise for Ishiguro’s books, reading individual reviews on platforms like Goodreads may provide more insight into the reasons behind the ratings.
