Why would he write of Viltrumite weaknesses to begin with? He was pretty dedicated to his eventual takeover. So why would he ever write anything which could ever come back to bite him or his people in the ass?

I always thought of it as Nolan subconsciously feeling compassion and was the first inklings of resent towards the viltrum empire.
That or they are just war stories to him as the only good war stories out the main character in danger
