I can’t remember when but he does have one redeeming line when he was saying that he was proud that eve was strong and couldn’t be used.
Its when they tell her parents they are leaving earth. He says how proud and strong she is while her mom crys and asks why shes leaving do you hste me? Etc…

I really wish that moment were given more time or actual weight from Eve. She just sort of says it was an oddly good thing to say.
To be fair, it is only one of four speech bubbles that he is supportive in that one talk. The first three still come across pretty bad.
