Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevski, and Native Son by Richard Wright.
Native Son is like C&P but set in black, urban Chicago and they are both amazing.

Oohh this is a good one. I personally hated the Wolfe (did not vibe with his writing style) and absolutely loved the HST. But would definitely recommend someone to read both if they are interested in the era.
Lolita is one I want to reread actually. There are so many times where Humbert is obviously lying to the reader, but there are a lot of subtle times that I think I missed on first read.
I feel like that’s the prime time to read it imo. I was 13 and absolutely loved it.
Wuthering Heights is like a trashy soap opera where everyone is toxic and hates each other. But it’s incredible and you can’t stop reading.
I think it’s important to read diversely. I tend to read a lot of classics but I force myself to read some YA and contemporary stuff a few times a year. I think the inverse should be true. Everyone should read books outside the comfort zone somewhat regularly.
It doesn’t matter. If you specify no YA, people will still rec YA. I’ve had it happen to me, and I’ve seen it happen hundreds of times on reddit.
