I have been thinking how difficult reading is ……to take these endless arrays of small repetitive figures and arrange them in your mind in an understandable sequence. How twisted does your brain/eye have to be to do that effectively? I say this as a lifetime reader who is noticing my decline in reading skills.
I have only been successful in reading Borges by looking up the characters he builds his stories around. I couldn’t understand the dynamics of the story because I lacked perspective. I have a feeling this book would bury me.
Brad Pitt was hired to read one of Cormac Mc Carthy’s books that had a very few Spanish words and names that he was not coached on. It was on cassette, ancient I know, I got so aggravated I threw the whole thing out the window.

I didn’t read any of his books til I married a woman who buys the new king book every year, reads it and gives it to the neighbors for Christmas. Since then I have read two or three, I didn’t love them, can’t remember which ones except this last one, Polly. Really enjoyed it, finished it in a weekend something I never do. There was a sense of reality to an otherwise unreal situation , good read!
