Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I didn’t like the book even before we spent THREE MONTHS picking it apart in my sophomore English class. It’s only 350 pages. And my teacher refused to believe that I finished it in the 48 hours I had between having her class so I ended up reading it four times before I finally told her I’d take whatever test she wanted to prove I knew it but I wasn’t going to read the damn thing again.
Plus she was a “it’s in the book, so you have to say it out loud!” kind of white teacher when it came to saying the n-word while reading out loud and just absolutely not.
What booktok are you on that recommends her books? Literally every creator I’ve seen has talked about how garbage her writing is. And they saved me from listening to 21 hours of Fourth Wing. People seem to think that TikTok just shows them whatever but your algorithm shows you what it thinks you’ll like. Curating that algorithm is part of the work you have to put in in order to see things you’ll actually enjoy.
