Dayton, Ohio – lots of people speak like that, too.

It’s definitely not a “southern” accent, per se; not a plains accent. Ted’s sounds closer to what could be called a “country accent.”

Note, Horst, my father’s navigator briefer in Germany, was a German national who has never been to the US, and learned his English from fighter pilots, spoke with a similar accent.
