Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. I don’t think it’s the worst book ever. It has some bright spots, but it was a book I read several times thinking that a book by the Fight Club guy must have some deeper meaning. It doesn’t, but it is poorly paced, sometimes incoherent, tedious edge-lord nonsense.

Catriona Ward. I heard a lot of buzz around The Last House on Needless Street, so I checked it out. It didn’t really work for me for a variety of reasons.

I decided to try Sundial by her, and while it took me a few chapters to get into, I ended up enjoying it. Then I read Little Eve and got into that one right away and ended up loving it.

I currently have Looking Glass Sound at the top of my TBR pile.

Moby Dick. I never had to read it in high school or college and knew it only by its reputation of being long and full of boring details about whaling. I was surprised how funny and gripping it was just from the first page, and even the sections on whaling maintained my interest.

It cracks me up that he inadvertently created a Hilaria Baldwin character in Dark Matter.
